Listening Kit No. 2
Peter and the Wolf
Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf
is a
programmatic work that was written with the intention of introducing children
to orchestral instruments. As the children listen to the story, told by a
narrator with orchestral accompaniment, they become familiar with 7
interesting characters that are depicted by 7 instruments.
Recordings
for this well known story in music are available readily. Recordings are not included
in the kit.
The recording
with narration is recommended:
Naxos :
Peter and the Wolf narrated by Dame Edna Everage.
There are
also a few recordings without narration. This is
useful in follow-up lessons to challenge the children to know “what’s
happening now?”.
