Sing the words of a song and point to the BEAT rather than the rhythm in each beat circle. This will also prepare students better for developing rhythmic dictation skills. They point to the beat and HEAR the rhythm – the number of sounds on each beat. I always find that if a student can’t accurately do rhythmic dictation they need work pointing to the beat circle/line which enables them to hear the number of sounds on each beat.
I’m prepared to put my reputation on the line here…..it ALWAYS helps them!!
