Second part video introducing you to my favourite game of SPLASH!
Students always come away from this game with a better understanding of rhythm and their ability to read and perform it.
The teacher gives explicit feedback to each student if they go out: tempo too slow, tempo too fast, hesitated before starting, said the rhythm names incorrectly, clapped the rhythm incorrectly – the hands did not match the syllables you were saying, you got lost and didn’t know which rhythm card we were up to.
This is the important learning behind this game…. the students need to know what and how they can improve. This is worthy of discussion with the class at the end. Ensure you give a slow tempo initially so all learners experience some level of success!
I the students are beginners, the teacher is better off pointing to each flashcard to assist students in knowing which pattern to perform.
To support students even further, you could point to each BEAT to assist performance.
